Summary of Job Description

The South Burnaby Neighbourhood House is a volunteer driven community based social service agency that provides programs and services in response to identified community needs.  The SACC Coordinator is responsible for overseeing one or more childcare centres and the planning and implementation of SBNH’s before and after school child care programs.  The coordinator reports directly to the Childcare Manager

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promotes Neighbourhood House program integration philosophy by ensuring programs have the opportunities to interconnect and achieve client integration across program areas.
  • To ensure all policies and procedures, as set by the board, are followed
  • To ensure a quality program for participants, ensuring social, physical, creative, and emotional needs are being met
  • To provide ongoing supervision and support for centre staff and volunteers
  • To ensure responsible management of budget in consultation with Director of Children’s Services
  • To provide monthly reports for the Board of Directors of children’s services
  • To work with parent and service provider committee to evaluate and modify program
  • To maintain records and guidelines in accordance with licensing regulations
  • To provide initial orientation for new families, including parent handbook
  • To provide monthly statistics as required for agency and childcare branch
  • Plan and implement school break camps
  • Participate in community dinners and other SBNH events as required
  • Liaise with school and community staff
  • To make scheduled visits to centre sites
  • To maintain positive relationships with other groups/programs at all site
  • In cooperation with Director, maintain adequate staff and sub-list numbers for program needs
  • To address parent concerns in situations where supervisors are unable to resolve issues
  • Other tasks as required (training, new centre set-up, evaluations, etc) in cooperation with Director

Salary:

$18.43 with Benefits after 3 months

Hours of Work:

35 - 37 hrs/wk 40 hrs during school holidays. Split shifts on occasion.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Knowledge and awareness of issues surrounding diversity and multiculturalism
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
• Completion of Early Childhood Educator Certificate, School-Aged Childcare Certificate, Recreation Leadership Diploma or Child and Youth Care Diploma, or completion of a combination of courses, in child development, guidance, health and safety, nutrition and leadership.
• 2-3 years experience providing care and mature guidance to school-aged children in a daycare or recreational setting
• 1-2 years supervising and supporting staff
• Current 1st Aid and CPR certification
• Current criminal record check
• Documented compliance with BC’s immunization and tuberculosis control programs
• Experience in administration and management in a community based non-profit
• Class 4 Driver’s License (or must obtain within 2 months of hire date)
• Foodsafe Level 1
• Experience monitoring budgets
• Knowledge of Community Care Licensing regulations
• 2nd language an asset
