Introduction to Sign Language for Child Care Providers

This workshop will teach functional sign language that will enable participants to support and communicate with children within a child care environment. Facilitators will engage the participants by teaching basic vocabulary and demonstrating how to incorporate signs into stories and songs.

Get Pink'd Out!

Take a stand against bullying and wear any pink item of clothing you can get your hands on!  Wednesday, February 29th is BC’s Anti-Bullying Day so students, parents, teachers, men, women, boys and girls all over the province are showing their support.  Be a part of this incredible movement!

A little advocacy and activism can go a long way.  Check out the history of the anti-bullying campaign and how one day of “pinkness” changed a kid’s life.  Click here for the info.

BCIT Documentary on Child Poverty in BC

The British Columbia Institute of Technology's (BCIT) Evolution 1079 radio station aired a documentary on child poverty in December 2011. The documentary features interviews with Adrienne Montani from First Call, Trish Garner from the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition, Sharon Gregson from the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC and other anti-poverty advocates. The documentary was created by BCIT students Shane Moore, Mark Collins, Stephanie Stewart and Liam Stevenson. The mp3 file can be downloaded HERE.

First Call’s Provincial Coordinator, Adrienne Montani, appeared on the David Berner show on Shaw TV, discussing child poverty in BC. You can watch the clip online HERE. It aired on cable channel 4 on Thursday, January 19th, 2012 at 8:00AM and Friday, January 20th, 2012 at 2:30PM. 

British Columbia has the highest child poverty rate out of all the provinces in Canada for its 8th consecutive year and continues to climb!  Check out the CBC news report HERE
